





Bengal has been always famous for its unique and beautiful weaves. Especially it's offering in cotton is one of the best and finest across the era. Begampur is a small town in the high district. They are famous for their beautiful weave in saree. Also called begampuri saree or metaphor sarees. They use lightweight khaki cotton threads for weaving. Bright colors for borders and contrasting body makes the saree unique. Designs are mostly in the striped form. Both broad and narrow borders are woven here. You can feel those motifs little up from the saree, giving it a three “D” feel. It is also similar to tribal weaves. Threads washed thoroughly and dyed. Than traditional bamboo drums or warping machines are used to warp. Then the weaving starts using pit loom or frame looms. Mostly 80-100 three counts of sarees are woven. It may take 15hours until 5-6 days to complete one saree, depending upon the intricacy of the work.
Begampuri Saree is light in weight, soft in feel, comfortable to drape on the body, and feels like the part of the skin. The variety of colors are available which helps people to choose to wear as per the occasion. Because of its adaptiveness, it can be worn for casual and formal occasions. Various kinds of blouse styles can be coordinated with the Begampuri Saree, both traditional and modern looks can be created.
